What We Offer

Our first appointment is usually an hour.  Our clinical approach is to empower our concussion patients with EDUCATION, EDUCATION, EDUCATION. Knowledge is power. In its simplest form, Concussion is an energy crisis. Through understanding why you are feeling the way you are feeling, you can utilise whatever energy is available to you to focus on your recovery. We set realistic expectations about your recovery whilst minimising any concussion-related anxiety.

At Concussion Headquarters we are aligned with current international standards utilizing best evidence based practice to provide you with world class health care.

At this time, concussion remains a clinical diagnosis. There is currently no single diagnostic test or biomarker of concussion. This means the responsibility lies with the health care provider assessing you to confirm whether you have concussion or not. At Concussion Headquarters, we assess every patient with a comprehensive multimodal assessment.  The assessment includes but is not limited to:

  • Cognitive assessment: Concussion symptoms may include cognitive issues like trouble focusing, distractibility, memory challenges, and reduced multitasking, often with fatigue.
  • Vestibular and oculomotor assessment: Concussion symptoms may include vestibular and oculomotor impairments, affecting balance, focus while moving, head-eye coordination, and stability. Oculomotor symptoms after a concussion can include blurred or double vision, difficulty tracking moving objects, eye strain, problems focusing, light sensitivity, headaches, dizziness, and difficulty reading,
  • Neck pain and Headache assessment: A concussion occurs due to a rapid acceleration/ deceleration of the brain within the skull. Thinking more globally, this is synonymous with a head on neck whiplash-type injury. Neck related symptoms include headaches, neck pain, dizziness, blurred vision, fatigue, muscle weakness, tingling and numbness throughout the arms and legs.
  • Anxiety/mood Assessment: Concussion-related anxiety and mood symptoms may include irritability, nervousness, sadness, stress, sleep issues, appetite changes, and heightened emotions, often linked to cognitive difficulties.
  • Dysautonomia-related concussion symptoms include dizziness, fatigue, headaches, palpitations, nausea, digestive issues, balance issues, changes in body temperature, and sensitivity to light or sound.

We also can incorporate a virtual reality instrument to objectively measure cognitive function, vestibular ocular motor reflexes and can track brain health over time. This can be used as a baseline concussion assessment tool too for professional athletes.
