Concussion HeadQuarters is dedicated to developing an educational platform that empowers healthcare professionals to enhance their expertise in concussion diagnostics, assessment, and rehabilitation. Concussions are often underestimated, and raising awareness can make a big difference in safety and recovery. Course Details

Did you know?

  • only 25% of concussions are sports related
  • majority of concussions are from falls, whiplashes and car accidents
  • 30% of people have ongoing persistent concussion symptoms such as headaches, anxiety, balance disturbances, persistent neck pain, dizziness
  • If your patient has a musculoskeletal injury that is not responding have you screened them for a past concussion or whiplash?

 

This three part online course will help you gain confidence in identifying signs and symptoms of concussion and make informed decisions that protect brain health. Take your first steps in becoming concussion aware.

Each module costs R600 for 2 CEU’s. Or, sign up for all three and the cost is R1500 for 6 CEU’s.

Module 1: What is Concussion? 

Date: Tuesday 8 April (7pm-9pm online)

  • Understanding the mechanism of injury – cross over between concussion and whiplash
  • How does the brain work normally: neuroimmune system; glymphatic system
  • Understand the neurometabolic cascade and neuropathology of concussion
  • How concussion presents: 5 zones
  • Sleep/fatigue; cognitive; emotional; physical; ANS dysautonomia

 

Module 2: Recovery process and risk factors 

Date: Tuesday 6 May (7pm- 9pm online)

  • 24 hour protocol- what’s happening in the brain?
  • Understanding the difference between physiological and clinical recovery
  • Expected recovery timeframes
  • Factors that impact individual recovery
  • Persistent concussion symptoms

 

Module 3: Managing your patient: paying attention to individual presentation

Date: Tuesday 27 May (7pm to 9pm online)

  • Assessment is part of treatment
  • Assessment and treatment protocols: when to use what
  • Pacing your patients recovery
  • Case study application and learning
